KDevelop 4.x doesn't know about the GNU autotools at the time this section is written. Kdevelop is available in the Ubuntu repositories - installing it from the repos should automatically pull in all of its dependencies. sudo apt-get install build-essentials kdevelop-dev There are probably more dependencies so I will update the list next time I do a clean install. Get the requirements If you installed from the repos and the problem persists - it could be that you haven't configured/set up your project properly.
